I was walking by this picture of my nephew as I have done multiple times in the past. This time, it was different. I stopped. Stared. Almost cried. And smiled. Let me explain. A couple years ago, my nephew was absolutely obsessed with Silly Bandz. He was told to take off the bracelets for the session but he begged to keep them. He won. With the understanding that he was to keep them covered and not show up in any of the pictures. So as I walked by this picture hanging in the hallway, I was immediately taken back to that time and his obsession. It lasted only a short period of time. So short that I had forgotten about it until seeing this again. This is why it’s so important to capture life. Real life. Not some sugar coated version where everyone is wearing their best outfits and are all coordinating with plastic smiles. Let them bring along their blankie that they can’t live without. You can’t keep her out of her favorite princess dress-up outfit? Let her wear it. So quickly we forget the little things and with pictures, those memories come back to life. Many photographers out there say they capture memories. I don’t. I simply find the details to bring your own memories back to life. Let me catch your details.
